People have been debating for decades whether the yeti exists or not. In the past, expeditions went to the Himalayas but they came back empty-handed.
So far mountaineers and hikers who trekked at the Himalayas have found footprints on the snow. The footprints are wider and bigger; so they do not resemble human footprints. Some have tried to take photographs, but the photos are not clear. So we have no evidence whether the yeti exists or not.
Just because you have not seen it does not mean that the yeti does not exist. What if it is smarter than any of us? What if yetis do not want to be seen?
Local Sherpas who live in the foothills of the Himalayas believe that yeti sightings have become rare because we are encroaching their habitat. They are afraid of being caught. They have gone into hiding. Their population is also getting extinct because they cannot roam around in search for food as they did in the past.
Evidence Supporting Yeti Existence
The only evidence supporting yeti existence were photographs of yeti footprints taken during the early days of mountain expedition.
A recent expedition by Russians claimed that they found indisputable proof about yeti existence. The team found footprints, hair sample, yeti’s bed and the room inside the Azasskaya cave.
However, you can argue that people fabricated the evidence to drum up publicity.
Khumjung monastery in Nepal kept the scalp of the yeti for several hundred years. However, when the sample was tested in Chicago, London and Paris, scientists determined that it was from a Himalayan goat. Similarly, other samples kept by local monasteries in Nepal and Tibet turned out to be from humans, Himalayan goat antelope, Himalayan bear or the Tibetan Giant Panda.
Some biologists believe these elusive creatures may actually be the Himalayan brown or black bear. When you see them from a distance, they may appear to be apes especially if they stand on their hind legs to grab some fruit from a tree.
Nevertheless the locals who live near the Himalayan region are certain that yetis exist. They have not seen the creature themselves but they know someone who did. And they swear that they are not just ordinary bears.
So we cannot say for certain that yetis exist. No one has seen dinosaurs either but scientists have been able to construct what they look like based on old fossils. Regardless, we think yetis are fascinating and we have great stories to tell.
